Civil Engineering for Building Your World! A civil engineer is a person who applies scientific and mathematical principles to build, design, and maintain infrastructures such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, and buildings. The infrastructure that these people create affects everyone’s daily life as well as the world as a whole. Civil engineers also plan, design, and manage construction projects from beginning to end while considering the public, structural and environmental effects of their work. As a result, many civil engineers choose to specialize in a particular field or area of civil engineering (i.e., geotechnical engineering).
