IT certifications are job-oriented practical courses that deal with a range of fields in IT, including but not limited to programming and development, quality assurance and testing, project management, service management, and many other fields. It also includes network and hardware support, penetration testing, and customer support management. Anyone with basic knowledge of computers can start learning and doing an IT certification. You can start with programming, customer support, and even testing without any formal experience in this field. Prior experience or knowledge of any programming or scripting language is a plus.
